Dr. Bronner — The Universal Soap Guide
Walk into any natural health shop and you’ll likely spot the instantly recognisable bottles from Dr. Bronner's packed with tiny text, bold statements, and the promise that one soap can handle almost everything. From showering and shaving to washing dishes and mopping floors, it’s often called a universal soap and not without reason.

What makes it different is simple: this isn’t a ready-to-use product like a typical body wash or cleaner. It’s a highly concentrated Castile soap designed to be diluted for different jobs. Once you understand how to mix it correctly, one bottle can replace a whole shelf of products saving money, space, and packaging.
Why Dilution Is the Secret
This is a concentrate first and a cleaner second. That’s what gives it such wide-ranging uses, but also why dilution matters.
Diluting properly:
-
Makes it gentler on skin and hair
-
Improves performance for each task
-
Prevents overuse
-
Helps each bottle last far longer
Think of it as a base formula you customise depending on what you need to clean.

Everyday Personal Care (Simple & Effective)
🚿 Shower & Body Wash
A small squirt on a wet cloth, sponge, or into your hands is enough. It lathers quickly, so don’t overpour.
🧼 Face Cleansing
Use just 2–3 drops on wet hands, work into a light lather, and rinse thoroughly.
🫧 Foaming Hand Soap
Fill a foaming dispenser with:
-
1 part soap
-
3 parts water
Shake gently to combine.
💇 Hair Washing
-
Short hair: a few drops directly into wet hair
-
Longer hair: mix up to ½ tablespoon with water first
Tip: In hard water areas, a mild acidic rinse afterwards (such as diluted apple cider vinegar) can improve softness and shine.
🪒 Shaving
Lightly lather before shaving:
-
Face: ~10 drops
-
Underarms: ~3 drops
-
Legs: ~½ teaspoon
